Tory Burch York Buckle Tote Review

Tory Burch York Buckle Tote

The Tory Burch York Buckle Tote was something I had my eyes on for quite a bit. I liked that it was a sizable bag, but one of the more “affordable” options of the Tory Burch totes.

I really wanted a “grown up” work bag and decided it was a good time to splurge when I was taking a work trip to Las Vegas. While I own this bag and it’s gotten a lot of use, it’s starting to get worn out. It’s simply a matter of you get what you pay for.

After doing lots of research (and even looking at eBay several times), I decided to go with the York Buckle Tote. I debated between that and the Perry Tote, but went with the York because it was less expensive and had a compartment for a laptop. Honestly, it was the perfect bag for carrying my essentials through airports and to the tradeshow, yet I didn’t feel like I had a giant bag that was weighing me down. Now, it’s still a functional laptop bag during the work week, and a great tote on the nights and weekends.

Bag Features

The reason I chose the large was that I wanted to be able to fit my laptop in it. The large holds up to a 15-inch laptop in the center pocket. The small says it can fit an iPad, so if you’re not looking for a laptop bag, then you might be able to get the small buckle tote. Again, when comparing the two sizes, think about what your needs for the bag are, as that will likely determine what size you choose.

The leather is saffiano leather, so it’s scratch resistant and really easy to clean. I had a couple white marks on it one day that I was easily able to rub off with a damp paper towel. The fact that it’s so easy to clean is one of the reasons that I love the bag so much.

The large bag has a compartment for a laptop, one large zip pocket, and four pockets for smaller items and devices. There’s also a clip for keys. Again, I can fit so much into this bag without feeling like I’m carrying a lot. For the tradeshow, I carried a pair of flats as a backup pair of shoes, and they easily fit into the bag.

The only thing I don’t like about the bag is that the laptop pocket doesn’t attach to the bottom of the bag, so it’s easy for things to get lost underneath. But seriously, it’s a pretty minor problem, and the only real issue I have with the bag.

Cost and Where to Buy

Again, the cost is a big reason to choose another handbag; however, if you really are looking for a quality tote, the price isn’t too bad. It retails for $295, and the smaller version is $245. But, if you really want a functional, every day bag, I’d recommend the large, especially if you’re using it for work or school.

If you missed getting this bag on sale during the fall Tory Burch sale this past weekend, I would check eBay if you’re looking for a good deal. eBay often has good prices, even on items that are NWT. I also typically filter by “Buy It Now” when I’m looking too, as I don’t like the idea of bidding. With eBay, just be aware of seller’s policies and know there can always be a small risk. Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and other retailers carry the bag as well.

Other Tote Options

Like I did in my last review, I’m including some other affordable options for a black tote. I own the Street Level reversible tote (included below), but I don’t own all of these, so I can’t attest to the quality of the others below.

I have this bag too and I love it for work. One thing that I notice and others do too is that the leather significantly starts to wear on the straps making them unusable. Hope it doesn’t happen to you!

What color do you have it in, Elizabeth? I did read that in some reviews when I was looking into buying the bag. It hasn’t happened to my bag as of now, but I’ll definitely update the post if I become unhappy with something else! Thanks as always for your comments!

I have the black one and the bigger size, like you! It is really strange because the leather is thick! Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen to you! 🙂 Have a great weekend xo

Agreed, Mikayla! The sale this past weekend had me tempted to buy another bag. Time to start saving for the next one. 😉

I just got this bag. Love it. I noticed that my bag is starting to lean over to a side and the sides are caving in a bit. Is that normal? Also, I have tried baby wipes and damp towel to remove a white mark on the front. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hey, Heather! I have to say, I haven’t had the issue with it leaning to one side. The sides might cave in on mine ever so slightly, but I’m not sure what can be done since it is a more structured, stiff bag. Have you tried stuffing it when you aren’t using it? I had another bag with a denim stain, and clear dish soap worked really well to fix it. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
