I have wanted these Rag & Bone distressed boyfriend shorts since last year (styled here), so when I started seeing them again, I knew it was time to seriously consider purchasing a pair. Trust me, it wasn’t an easy decision. I know that they are expensive. Heck, some of you are probably wondering why I would pay so much for shorts with holes in them.
Some of you may be coveting over these yourself and wondering if it’s worth it, hence today’s post. I’m hoping that it will help you make the right choice, whether it’s to save or splurge. If you’re still not sure after reading, leave a comment or send me an email with your questions!
I will say, now that I have them, I’m really happy I made this purchase (and that’s the truth). They’re extremely versatile, although I’m still struggling to make them less casual. Thank goodness for Pinterest inspiration!
These shorts are also extremely soft (cotton!) and very comfortable. After I tried them on, I kept them on for the rest of the evening while I worked at my desk.
Fit and Sizing
The hardest part for me was figuring out sizing. I’ve read reviews that said to go down two sizes, and others that said the shorts were true to size. I’m a size 27 and tried a 25 first before exchanging for a 26. If you are curvier like me in the hips but have a small waist, I’d size down one size. Otherwise, I probably would’ve stuck with the size 25. I have a small waist so they do gap a little in the back, but decided with a belt or the right shirt that it wouldn’t matter to me.
These are cotton, so they will stretch. If you want a looser fit, I’d try your true size, but keep in mind that they will get looser with wear.
Ultimately, I think sizing will depend on your body type, but overall, I would say they run big.
Cost and Where to Buy
Obviously, the cost (over $200) was the biggest reason I waited so long to purchase these Rag & Bone boyfriend shorts. I almost purchased a pair on eBay, but the seller didn’t offer returns, and I didn’t want to get stuck with a pair that didn’t fit.
I ultimately purchased mine from Shopbop. They have fast, free shipping (and Amazon Prime shipping too), so I knew that if they didn’t fit right, I could easily return them. I tried to buy these during a sale to get a discount, but couldn’t find anything else I loved, so I paid full price.
You can also check eBay, but read sellers’ reviews and be wary of their return policies. eBay says you can return them if they aren’t what the seller promised. If it’s a sizing issue, however, you won’t be able to return them. I also like that they have the “Buy It Now” option. I hate the idea of bidding.
Again, I know these are not in everyone’s budget, so I’m linking other options below. The good news, is that you can easily get the look for less! Happy shopping!
