If there’s one trend we’re starting to see from retailers this season, it’s off the shoulder tops and dresses. They always make an appearance every spring/summer, but I really feel that this year they’re very on trend. As a Lilly Pulitzer lover, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this Enna top.
But what really got me to notice the trend this year was this Mara Hoffman top (also found here), paired with the matching shorts. I love that a matching set takes the guessing game out of creating outfits.
How to Wear Off the Shoulder Tops
But how else can you pair off the shoulder tops? My favorite way, and perhaps the easiest way, is with denim jeans or shorts. I love the contrast of the white top with the dark denim in the photo above. If you’re top is a lighter wash or white, I’d stick with a dark denim. On the other hand, a navy top would look great against a light wash, and especially with white denim. Let’s face it, navy and white are always a perfect match.
As far as accessories, I think simple is best, as you really want the top to be the main focus. For a summer weekend, I love the idea of an off the shoulder top and a fedora. It’s the easiest way to look effortless yet totally on trend.
Again, simple jewelry is best. In fact, skip the necklace. But if you must, think delicate gold necklaces that won’t take away from the shirt. Bracelets and stud earrings complement the look well.
Of course, if you still want to try the off the shoulder trend without having to worry about putting together an entire outfit, dresses are a perfect option. I featured this REVOLVE tunic in another post, and it’s still something I have my eye on. I’m also loving this Asos dress, because the price is unbeatable!
I’ve rounded up several off the shoulder tops and dresses at various price points below. I’d love to hear which are your favorites, and what you think of the trend!
