Monday I talked a little bit about how great it is to get out and about, even when the weather has you feeling down. My sister and I visited Tomato Pie Cafe, which we agreed reminds us of Luke’s Diner or the restaurant at the Dragonfly Inn. Any Gilmore Girls fans reading this?
It’s a place not too far from home, yet one I hardly ever visit. In fact, I had only been once before. Finding treasures in your hometown is always a treat. Read on for a little more about my experience.
What to Order
I squealed when I saw avocado toast was one of the May specials. I’ve never really been anywhere that had avocado toast on the menu (sadly), and while I love making it at home, it was fun to order it and see how they did it.
It came on this sunflower bread with avocados (of course), radishes, olive oil, salt, and a lemon wedge on the side. Very simple, but very tasty. I loved the course salt on the toast so much that it inspired me to use it on my avocado toast at home the following day.
I also ordered a cup of tomato bisque. Since it was a cold day, it felt appropriate. The avocado toast was only one piece, so I was glad that I had a little something else to go with it. And the scones that came with the soup? Perfection.
If there’s a chai latte on the menu, I almost always have to try it! I thought this one still had a lot of flavor, despite ordering it with skim milk. I prefer my chai lattes to be a little more mild in chai flavor. If that’s how you prefer yours, then I definitely recommend ordering this one from Tomato Pie if you’re local.
Now I have to go back to actually try the tomato pie. After all, it is Tomato Pie Cafe. It’s a foreign concept to me, but I love tomatoes, so I just need to buck up and try it.
To anyone local, if this isn’t on your regular list of places that you go for a quaint breakfast or lunch with friends, it should be!
