Best Places to Shop for Workwear

When you’re an adult in your early to mid 20’s, shopping for workwear that is age appropriate, cute, and functional is a challenge. This has been less of a challenge for me since graduating because I work in a casual office, but having workwear piece for client meetings, conferences, etc. is still important. I’ve already talked about how to build a wardrobe for work as a young professional, and today I wanted to share three places that I shop for workwear, including one that may surprise you!

Banana Republic

We don’t have a Banana Republic near me anymore, which is so disappointing! You can find some really great pieces to build a workwear wardrobe. Dresses, button down shirts, and slim ankle pants are a few basics you can find here.

J.Crew frequently has sales where you can score really awesome deals, especially on workwear. Martie pants and the Regent blazer are two of my workwear staples. My go-to look is a pair of navy Martie pants, this striped tee, and my Regent blazer. I have the Regent blazer in the camel color, which I think is casual and dressy at the same time. If you work in an office that is primarily casual, the camel color is a good alternative to black or navy. If something isn’t on sale now at J.Crew, check back often! You can get some really great deals on quality pieces.

You probably wouldn’t think of Madewell as a place to shop for workwear, but I love to get dresses for the office here. Since my office is pretty casual, what I can wear to work may differ from what you can wear. But items like this ruffle dress, this poppy red dress, and this bell sleeve dress are totally work appropriate. And, they easily transition to the office or for weekend brunches. Any piece that you can get more wear out of is a win!

Where do you shop for workwear? I’d love to hear!

  • You are SPOT ON about the challenge of dressing for work as a young adult! I also really like J. Crew and Banana Republic for work pieces. Aritzia is great for blouses and blazers!

I haven’t heard of Aritzia! I’m definitely going to have to check it out. Thanks for stopping by, Erin!
